Summer Series 02: Rose Water Mist
Last week I gave you your built-in air conditioning. This week I want to introduce you to its sidekick! And honestly, it might be the prettiest experiment in this entire series.
We're still in Pitta season. The season of fire, heat, and intensity. And if Sheetali breath cools you from the inside, rose water cools you from the outside.
Here's what makes rose so special in Ayurveda: it works on two levels at once. Physically, it's deeply cooling - soothing heat, calming irritation, easing that flushed overheated feeling that summer brings. But it's also calming to the senses. The scent of rose is one of the most soothing fragrances to the nervous system, and in Ayurveda the senses are a direct doorway to the mind. A moment of fragrance, closed eyes, and a cool mist on your face is a small but real pause. A tiny act of turning inward, even just for a breath.
Here's the experiment: keep a rose water mist somewhere you'll actually use it. Spritz your face first thing in the morning as part of your routine. And anytime you feel overheated, irritated, or like your eyes need a reset, close your eyes and mist again. Let it sit for a moment before you open your eyes. That closed-eyes moment is part of the practice, not just a safety note.
I personally use and love both Shankara and Pratima rose water mists — two beautiful Ayurvedic skincare lines. Either is a gorgeous place to start. (affiliate links below)
Seven days. Keep it close. Use it often. And maybe — just maybe — let your whole week get a little rosy. 🌹
The Method
What it is: A cooling, calming rose water mist — physically soothing AND sensorially grounding
When to use it:
First thing in the morning as part of your routine
Anytime you feel overheated, irritated, or need a reset
Before a stressful moment — call, meeting, conversation
Whenever your eyes feel tired or your face feels flushed
How: Close your eyes. Mist your face. Let it sit for a moment before opening your eyes. That pause is part of the practice.
What to use: Any rose water mist works, but I personally love and recommend:
✦ Shankara Rose Water Mist(affiliate link)
✦ Pratima Rose Water Mist(affiliate link)
Both are beautiful Ayurvedic skincare lines formulated with Pitta season in mind.
Duration: Seven days — keep it close, use it as often as you need
What to notice: The immediate cooling sensation when you mist. Whether it shifts your mood, even slightly — a little softening, a little exhale. How often you find yourself reaching for it by day 3, 4, 5. Whether it starts to feel like a ritual rather than a product. Your overall sense of heat and irritability throughout the week.
Who this is especially for: Anyone who runs hot — physically or emotionally. Anyone spending time outside in summer heat. Anyone who wants a tiny, portable reset they can use anywhere.
Watch for: Spritz with eyes closed — rose water can sting if it gets directly in your eyes. The closed-eyes moment is part of the ritual, not just a precaution. 🌹
